The Mediterranean’s Best Green Destination in 2018, Gozo – one of Malta’s sister islands – wants to ensure that the international recognition and success of its eco-friendly tourism sector can help spur the sustainable development of its wider economy.

CEWAS: Water Open Eye Award winner

Cewas is a Swiss non-profit association specialized in improving business practices in water and sanitation through training and awareness-raising so as to increase the sector’s integrity and sustainability.

Earlier this month, cewas awarded the Water Open Eye Award – Lebanon as part of the Blue Peace Media Lab project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by MiCT, cewas and the Media Academy Iraq, to young Lebanese journalist Ali Awadah for his piece about mismanagement and pollution of the Litani River.

تلوّث الليطاني… الدولة لم تصرف الاعتمادات وتمعن فساداً

اختلاط مياه نهر الليطاني جنوباً بالمياه الآسنة أمر بات معلوماً للجميع، وتلوث قعر بحيرة القرعون أصبح أمراً طبيعياً بالنسبة للدولة اللبنانية، لا بل أصبحت تتعامل مع الملف وكأن التلوث من الكماليات، حتى أنها قررت حجب الاعتمادات من الموازنة العامة لعام 2020 المخصصة لرفع التلوث عن حوض نهر الليطاني والتي نصّ عليها القانون 63 لعام 2016. اقرأ المزيد.

World Bank: $117 million investment in water for Palestinians in Gaza

WASHINGTON, February 10, 2020 – Against the extremely limited access to safe drinking water in Gaza, the World Bank announced a US$15 million grant to the Water Security Development – Gaza Central Desalination Program — Associated Works Phase I Project.

The new project that aims to improve the quality and quantity of water in Gaza will benefit from a coordinated aid of US$42 million from donors, members of the Partnership for Infrastructure Development Multi-Donor Trust Fund (PID MDTF) administered by the Bank, and US$60 million in parallel financing form the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

In addition, the project will also work on strengthening the capacity of water institutions, including establishment of a small unit to manage bulk water supply operations in Gaza, laying a sound foundation for the future establishment of the National Water Company.

يقترح المشروع مرافقة إدخال القضايا البيئية في الإنتاج الإعلامي في المغرب والجزائر وتونس ومصر ولبنان والأردن، من خلال التدريب والدعم التحريري.

سيتم اختيار مشاريع التقارير المقترحة من 30 صحفيًا وسيخضع هؤلاء الصحفيون إلى تدريب على القضايا البيئية وصحافة الحلول في مرسيليا على هامش المؤتمر العالمي لحفظ الطبيعة التابع للاتحاد الدولي لحفظ الطبيعة، كما وأنهم سيقومون بتنفيذ تقاريرهم الثلاثة بين يوليو 2020 ويونيو 2021، يرافقهم شركاء المشروع في الموقع.

ستكافئ 5 منهم مع جوائز بقيمة تبلغ 4000 يورو للجائزة الواحدة على شكل معدات، خلال مؤتمر ميديا لاب البيئي الأخير في أكتوبر.
آخر موعد لاستلام الطلبات هو10 ابريل 2020.
