Our backstory

Since its launch in 2016, AMWAJ has championed new perspectives and stories on the challenges and opportunities around water and energy in the Mediterranean. The platform, which means “waves” in Arabic, continues to evolve with an ever-growing network of journalists, organizations, researchers, and policymakers who further our mission of providing quality content and effective communication.  

AMWAJ believes in addressing the most pressing problems posed by human-induced climate change and in presenting and strengthening the solutions that are being advanced. 

Giving back to the community

The AMWAJ Fellowship Program for Journalists will give young professional journalists a boost in their early careers 

We encourage coverage stories about sustainability and its derivative sub-themes of circular economy, ecosystem restoration, energy transition, sustainable mobility and water resources are what define our world today. Applications with a multimedia focus are particularly encouraged. 

What we fund 

One applicant will be selected for the AMWAJ Fellowship Program for Journalists. The first cycle of the Fellowship will take place over four months from January to April 2025. The successful applicant will receive a stipend of 1,000 euros per month, plus travel and accommodation costs for approved reporting expenses.

Application procedure/How to become an AMWAJ Fellow

The application process consists of the following steps:

Documents to attach:

  • CV
  • Letter of motivation (max 400 words ~ 1-page)
  • Story Pitch, including details of formats to be used and links to previous work where applicable. (max 400 words ~ 1-page)

Application deadline: 30 September 2024 (applications received after this date will not be considered for this round).
