As-Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), Az-Zarqa, Jordan

As-Samra is the largest private-public partnership (PPP) in the MENA region to date (2018). The 25-year project is based on the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) approach relying on support from the USA, Sweden and bringing together many companies, banks, agencies and ministries to process the wastewater capturing the electricity for the cities and providing clean water for irrigation the surrounding agricultural lands.

Samra replaces an overloaded waste stabilization pond treatment system, allow the safe reuse of treated water for agriculture and other benefits. In partnership with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), AMWAJ led a group of 40 journalists, researchers and policy-makers to visit Samra WWTP.
