Drought is already one of the 4 most critical natural hazards in Southwest Europe
As a recurrent and extreme phenomenon, droughts are difficult to predict, with high spatial and temporal variability. Together with floods, fires and soil degradation, drought and its consequences is one of the 4 most critical natural hazards in the mountain forests of Southwest Europe. Our dependency on water is challenging food security in the most water-scarce region of the Middle East and North Africa – a dry and arid region struggling to meet growing water demand, especially for agriculture.
