MedCities & WE&B - MedCities and Barcelona City Council Host First BAMM on Green & Blue Cities
AMWAJ member MedCities, with the support of Barcelona City Council, launched the first Barcelona Academy for Mediterranean Municipalities (BAMM), focusing on "Green & Blue Cities". This event brought together officials and experts to share insights on urban resilience. David Smith, Ph.D., of AMWAJ member WE&B, discussed the WEFE (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem) nexus, highlighting its role in sustainable urban planning with Mediterranean-focused examples, including the Run4Life project.
WE&B - Announcing a New Name: Water, Environment and Beyond
WE&B has officially transitioned to a non-profit research and consultancy cooperative, now named Water, Environment and Beyond (WE&B).
The name "beyond" reflects the organization's evolution over the past 10 years, moving beyond profit to address broader water and environmental challenges. The team and structure remain the same, continuing to focus on social and ecological business innovation while diving deeper into policy innovation.
MedWaves & CREAF - Launch of SEACURE Project in Vic, Spain
The SEACURE project, funded by the EU's Horizon Europe program, is a key initiative addressing nutrient pollution from soil to sea in the Mediterranean, promoting sustainable food production and ecosystem restoration. AMWAJ members MedWaves and CREAF are active partners, with MedWaves leading communication, dissemination, and policy efforts to connect science with public awareness. Alongside CREAF and regional partners, SEACURE focuses on scaling sustainable practices and nature-based solutions to improve soil health and reduce nutrient runoff across pilot sites in Spain, Italy, and Greece. The project launched with a kick-off in Vic, Spain, on 16-17 October.
BeMed is launching its 9th Call for Micro-Initiatives! Eligible organizations can apply for up to €10,000 with a minimum 30% co-financing. Applications are until 6 January 2025.

The RESIST project is organizing a webinar on 19 November to equip media professionals with tools and knowledge for accurate reporting that serves local communities and vulnerable populations. The session will focus on improving newsroom climate emergency response plans, featuring experts and an interactive session to identify gaps and co-create reporting guidelines.
Course on Sustainable Coastal Tourism Development and Ocean Governance
This free 20-hour training course in English covers sustainable coastal tourism and ocean governance. Open to stakeholders, educators, and NGO representatives, it equips participants with tools for informed decision-making to preserve coastlines and oceans. Apply by 7 November.
