General Assembly Highlights the Past, Present and Future of AMWAJ

The AMWAJ General Assembly was held in Barcelona and online on 13 June. The REVOLVE team showcased the platform’s recent accomplishments and milestones before offering a glimpse of what the future holds with an exciting and busy agenda in the coming months. The event also featured active participation from AMWAJ members, media partners and organizations working in the Mediterranean, who shared their valuable insights and activities, further enriching the occasion.
The medieval Sant Romà de Sau Church in Catalonia has resurfaced from the shrinking Sau reservoir, becoming a symbol of the region’s water crisis. Climate change is making droughts more frequent and severe in the Mediterranean, which is warming 20% faster than the global average. “Change needs time” – Annelies Broekman (CREAF)
AMWAJ members including representatives from CREAF, MedWaves and CluBE discussed different campaign and communication strategies to engage people in complex environmental research and knowledge during the second Tabadul of 2023, at EU Green Week. Multidisciplinary case studies about climate change, droughts, plastic waste and marine litter in different regions of the Mediterranean were shared with the audience.

Both artists have respectively participated in the first and second editions of the artistic residency ECOTONS, promoted by CREAF – AMWAJ member.
Cyprus is surrounded by the salty waters of the Mediterranean Sea and relies on desalination for as much as 80% of its freshwater supply. AMWAJ – أمواج spoke to several generations of local people to hear about their experience of water scarcity and learn more about their relationship with water on the island.
